The Mauritshuis was built in The Hague in 1644, by order of Prince Maurice. After his death it came into the possession of the Dutch state. In 1822 it became the Royal Picture Gallery. The collection includes paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Steen and Ruysdael.
